I have a charge-off due to come off in 2006. not looking to wait that long. i got my report and i'm hoping to send in a dispute. my question is: what should i dispute? the date? is the whole idea that the CA won't report to the CRA and thus, the CRA will have to remove the entry?? Thanks for the help!

Is there any specific verbage I should include in the dispute?

You have some reading to do )

Find out what your rights are by reading the Fair Credit Reporting Act. Search this board for what others have done in your situation. Post the results of your journey!

Of course, DO ask for help here when you get stuck, but do some homework first. The unofficial creditnet board FAQ is a great place to start. Just reading lots of posts is also very helpful.

By the way, followoing the advice of PsychDoc:

Hello, my name is Fred. I have two crappy charge-offs that I'm trying to rid myself of. One is for $1667 and the other is $67 (both are on record until 2006). I have no credit. No cards or anything. So, here I am.
    Party on, dudes.

Ok, after looking over the board for a good 10 hours, I've decided maybe I should try a variation on the Nutcaseâ?¢. I've seen it, or rather heard it worked for a couple others on this board with charge-offs, so what the hell? Here's my situtation:

Have two COs. One is insignificant ($67) and is being disputed. The other was a CO of an old credit card that I paid off to a CA 5 months ago (I was intimidated. Those guys are real jerks). Here's the thing: It's reported on CRA reports by the OC. But, when I paid it, they said the account belonged to Platinum Financial Services and they'd be reporting the new info. My question is:

Who should I go Nutcaseâ?¢ on? The OC or the CA?

Hey, I know I'm a newbie. Bare with me.

    Dear Freddie,

Let me see if I can splain somethin that may or may not help you, that's your decision.

I joined this board 9 weeks ago. The first day I spent 18 hours reading these posts. The next day I realy got serious. I've read AT LEAST 20,000 posts. Studied FDCPA and FCRA 10 times. Printed out and studied AT LEAST 20 Cases ( lawsuits filed against CRA's and CA's).

Of course I'm a bit fortunate to be able to bring myslef up to speed very quickly becasue I'm self employed and was in a a postion to take a lot of time off to read, read, and re-read. After 9 weeks the stack of stuff I have printed out if 2 feet high, (that's feet not inches).

And I'm a Financial Planner in the first place and have been since 1980 so I had a "leg up" to begin with.

ALERT -> I AM JUST NOW STARTING TO GET A HANDLE ON THIS STUFF AND LAUNCHING MY FIRST ROUND OF LETTERS!

    Now, you are more than welcome to be here and will be treated with the utmost respect but for your own sake, please study this entire thread before you do anything yet.;

Even tho many suspect this person was a plant we still feel this thread provides an excellent case study of what can happen if we act too quickly.

I'm telling you this because we care about you and how successful you are going to be, not because I'm being mean.

    Welcome to the board.

    :)
