Hey guys new to the board and the "repair credit" business. Anyway what I wanted to know is when I send the "dispute debt" letter do I send them to BOTH the credit bureau and the creditor in this case a collection agency? I want to make sure I dont screw up my "first" letter. Thanks for all you help in advance
Be sure to study this thread; http://consumers.creditnet.com/straighttalk/board/showthread.php?s=&pgnum=1&postid=202767#post202767 Welcome to the board. Keep us posted.
OK I think I understand maybe a bit better. I know that the dispute letter is sent to the CRA and that I should send a "debt validation" letter to the creditor in this case a collection agency. But I am still lost if I should send them BOTH at the same time. One to the CRA the other to the CA. Or can I just send the one to the CRA and let them do all the work tracking this debt down and asking the CA for "proof" of the debt? Any help is appreciated Thanks
1. dispute with CRA first 2. If it remains, send validation to CA 3. if remains, send estoppel to CA 4. then intent to sue and FTC compalints little more into it. just take first step and keep us posted. continue to read board and in 30 days u will be on the right track.
Thanks for all the info gang. When I do send the CRA my letter do I list just one account that I want to dispute or is wise to list say 3-4 accounts that you want looked at on the SAME letter? Thanks in advance
personally, would not do more than 2 at a time. wait 1 month, then 2 more. if it took you years to mess up your credit, then waiting a bit wont hurt
My first round of disputes, I sent a really cheesy checklist. I didn't even send it CRR. Disputed 71 derogs all at once, divided roughly equally between six CR's; 36 fell off first try. That seems to be the ratio. Dispute two, one falls off. Dispute fifty, twenty five fall off. I think sometimes we get so dang cute that we waste a lot of time.
Wow that is some kind of results! Is this common for people who have went through this? I mean that seems great I amnot sure if this is common or if you just got lucky or not?
I feel it has alot to do with who entered the info on your profile. Some companies change addresses and numbers so frequently the CRA can not find them during a dispute. A rule of thumb is most accounts over 3 years old are easy to remove. Rememeber that is 3 years and no activity. newer than 3 can be done like 50/50. within a year year, good luck-like pulling teeth
Thanks agin this board is great! Most of my accounts that I will dispute are old so if what you are saying holds true then I may have an easier time getting the accounts taken off and maybe just maybe I can slip a few "extra" accounts in with my debt letter and get those taken off too.
I should qualify my statement by way of telling you that virtually all of our derogs were paid collections/ paid chargeoffs. There's less incentive for those people to put up a struggle since there is nothing for them to gain. They already got their money. That said, from what I've seen around here over the last nearly-a-year (actually a bit over a year if you count the 2-3 months of lurking before I posted the first time), 50% falling off on the first round is relatively normal. That's the low hanging fruit. After that is when it gets more difficult. Some creditors push back pretty darn hard. Capitol One comes to mind. But, you can wear them down too. I got Capitol One to delete twelve derogs just a couple of weeks ago. Pure persistence. I wanted them off worse than they wanted them on. You gotta remind yourself that lbrown59's rantings notwithstanding, there really is not someone at Capitol One or any other creditor whose job title is Manager In Charge of Ruining Quixote's Life (CA's are another story!). I, however, about a year ago, appointed myself as The Guy In Charge of Improving Quixote's Credit, and Thereby His Life. It's my passion/ obsession. You really think they're going to beat me long term? Not likely. They don't have a plan, but I do.
Different people get different results at different times. My first attempt at disputing got 3 deletions out of five disputes at 2 CRAs and 2 deletions at another. Good luck and don't give up.
1* send val. to Ca first 2* dispute with CRA second 3* Send Estoppel to CA if CA fails to properly respond 4* then intent to sue and FTC complaints The reason you do things in this order is to build a better paper trail so you have a stronger case and it puts the CA under greater pressure. ****Waiting hurts because you can be subject to having your insurance premiums & loan rates jacked up at any time!
You can do it in reverse order and inside out if you want and you know what you'll get? Two disputes, one delete. Fifty disputes, twenty five deletes. Gotta get the easy ones out of the way so you can see where your real problems are.
good point. People get excited when they get 10 quick deletes. then they think the credit repair is working. actually, those "low hanging fruit" have only adjusted your score by a few points. in order to get to the higher ones, its gonna take work. I know. I have probally received over 30 deletes, but I am still mid-500s. The ones that I am working on will raise my score to around 700. again I am in the middle of 3 law suits, ftc complaints, bbb complaints, and a ton of other mess.
GREAT Questions doityourself.. GREAT Answers to all the replies.... I am starting this whole credit mending as well..
