Dispute or validate??

My EQ credit report show three medical collection accounts from 1996. They are actually on the report twice. The collection agency put them on, then changed the account number slightly then reported them again a few years later. So instead of three it shows six. I live in CA so the SOL is up on all of these. Should I first dispute them as duplicate and ask for removal? Or should I go the validation routine? Do I put all six accounts on the validation letter, or by the two (showing the duplications), or each separate? Or do you do dispute with the CRA at the same time that you validate with the CA?

Dispute the duplicates and send validation letters to the CA for the original 3.
