Ok, So I started a thread a while back about Time Warner putting two "Paid Charge Offs" in my EQ report, that shouldn't have been there. I disputed with EQ (I actually had to go through one of their services, CBC Credit Services), and finally found out today that I won the dispute.

Or at least I think I did. The letter I got in the mail today had only a copy of my credit report. The new report did not have the 2 items I disputed on there, so I'm assuming I won. But aren;t they supposed to include something that basically states what they did to investigate? I got nothing other than a new report. Nothing saying they contacted TW and they couldn't verify, or anything else. Am I still alright?

And one more question. Does disputing adversely affect your credit score? I'm just wondering because there seems to be several new inquires on my report due to my dispute. One says "ID EQUIFAX CONSUMER SER", another "CBC CONSUMER INVESTI", another that says "ID EQUIFAX DECISION SOL", and one more that says "CB CORRECTED COPY". Why all these inquiries? Are they considered hard inquiries?

One final question. This is all started when I was denied for the Amex Starwood card. So is it possible for me to apply for the card again without having Amex have to do a hard inquiry again? I know you can ask the CRA to send an updated version of the report to any company that has requested the report in the last 6 months. Can I somehow use this to apply for the Amex card again. I'm just trying to avoid even more inquiries.

Whew...that was alot of questions. This was my first dispute though, so I still have a lot to learn. Thanks for all your help so far.

Usually there is a statement on the front of your new report stating what items were investigated and the results such as remains, or updated, or of course the lovely "deleted".

Those inquiries are "soft" and will not affect your score. There is a code at the bottom of the Eq. report that will show which inquiries can only be seen by you. Usually, anything that starts with id ar or prm are soft and don't hurt your score.

On the amex issue, I recently got a denial from them on the 800 number. I got through to a CSR and said that some info had been updated on my report. They let me fax them an updated copy and I got the card. Call 800-641-2400 and follow the prompts til you get a live person. You have to do it during regular business hours.

Mine doesn't have that statement at the beginning stating what was investigated and the results. Just a new report with the items no longer on it. So I guess it's safe to assume that I won, right?

Yes, I know about the codes at the bottom that designate ccertain inquiries as soft, but there is no code at the bottom for any of the inquiries I listed above. The inquiries that I don't see codes listed for are:

    1. ID EQUIFAX CONSUMER SER
    2. CBC CONSUMER INVESTI
    3. ID EQUIFAX DECISION SOL
    4. CB CORRECTED COPY

There are no codes for any of these. I really hope they aren't considered hard inquiries. Anyone know for sure?

    Thanks again,
    Kevin
