I went to the letters section to get a copy of a validation letter I can send to a few CAs, and was kinda confused. All the "debt validation" letters say this at the top: This is a request for debt validation from a creditor or credit bureau. On the other hand, the "dispute" letter at http://consumers.creditnet.com/straighttalk/board/showthread.php?s=&pgnum=1&postid=85490#post85490 says this at the top: This is a letter to dispute a debt with a collection agency or credit bureau. I know I'm supposed to be validating (rather than disputing), so is it alright to assume the validation letters are ALSO meant for CAs? Thanks much.
I noticed that too the first time I read the sample letters. If you read the letters they are self-explanatory as to who they go to, also there's several versions of sample letters so you can decide which fits or which to modify to fit your situation or just the approach you feel most comfortable with. "Dispute" is FCRA and what you do with the CRA's. "Validation" is for collection agencies, third party collectors, FDCPA. You can do both, I wait until the green cards have been received, then dispute with the CRA and get a copy of the report to see if it's showing as "disputed by consumer."
