Disputes & sharing personal info with Credit Bureaus?

    I'd like to dispute several items on my credit report through the credit bureaus. The three major bureaus have online forms to do so, and all ask for sensitive personally identifying information (e.g., SSN, address, etc.). I realize the bureaus may already have this info, but if not, I'd prefer not to share it. Is it possible to dispute via paper correspondence (or some other means) without divulging these details?

    In order to dispute any inaccurate information on your report, you must verify your identity with them first. For your protection. Misuse of your personal information by them can result in a lawsuit against them.

    To an extent, but they don't necessarily need everything but the kitchen sink to verify your identity either. :)

    If they refuse my dispute based on what I provide them, I will be more than happy to verify my identity with Federal Court when they take my pleading, and it costs them the same amount.

    <REPORT NUMBER>

    I dispute the following information appearing on my report.
    <CREDITOR> - <NUMBER AS DISPLAYED> - <REASON>

    Sincerely,

    If you're disputing online you'll have to divulge what they ask; otherwise there's no disputing.

    You can mail your dispute, sent certified and not give the sensitive information you're concerned about.

    FYI, whatever information you're trying to hold back, the CRA's likely have anyway.

    Usually you would send in a photocopy of your State ID/DL, social security card, & current utility bill and that should allow them to verify what they need to in order to move along with your dispute. If you don't verify who you are, how will they know that its you? and its actually better for you to do so for the sake of any inaccurate/fraudulent accounts on your report.

    Wouldn't lawsuits against the credit bureau's be an AWESOME thing! Yes I think so. The credit bureaus are despicable and despised.

    There was a congressional or senate investigation of then and it was the ruling of the final report that the credit bureaus purposely impede people from contacting and interacting with them. That it is all a predetermined, plan/plot by the credit bureaus to string you out, stall you, aggravate you in hopes that you give up.

    The bureaus are dirt bags.

    I was surprised of the report put out by the politicians given normally they are in the pocket of the bureaus as they have tremendous clout from having bought off most of the politicians.

    Oh wait, even though the report was scathing, I don't think anything was changed, so I guess it was what is called a, "limited hangout". This is what the cia does. If they think they are going to be busted on something, the throw out some info as a distraction and that causes the yapping dogs to usually think they have won something, meanwhile the entire real crime has been covered up with, and gotten away with. So the report was just misdirection.

    Perhaps.

    Though I hear they respond well enough when getting sued ;)
