I had a charged off credit card that had hired a CA to collect. I sent a cease and desist letter to the CA. Then the debt was sold (I believe) to a second CA. This second CA now says I owe about $200 more than I previously owed. MY QUESTION is, can I dispute this and ask for proof of the debt if it is more than 30 days after they sent me the letter stating I have 30 days to dispute it? Did I lose any rights by not writing to them within 30 days. (its been about 60 days now)
Yes! You can dispute it anytime. I'd send the validation letter to them. What you might also try to do is negotiate with them. See if they'll remove off the reports for a percentage paid (Or even to pay in full). Make sure you get this in writing... GT
