I disputed an inquiry on my report with a creditor. Today I received a letter from them stating "... Please be advised that we are unable to locate your file in our system. Please provide us with you Social Security number and/or copy of the credit report you recived from us so that we may attempt to locate yoru file. You can also contact three Natioanl Credit Bureaus directly regarding disputed information"

Do I send them any information? Do I forward this letter to the credit bureaus since it states that there is no file? What do I do?

    thanks for you help?

It's not unlikely that they can't find your name but may be able to find your "application" or whatever it is by ss#.

With inquiries I have never gotten anywhere with the CRA's. They have in my case only provided me with the contact information of the inquirer.

The way I see it, if you absolutely don't want to provide your social to these people then you should send another letter in response letting them know they are violating federal laws by pulling your report without a permissable purpose and that you won't provide them with your ss# because they have already damaged you by man-handling your credit file. Turn up the heat, get nasty, give em hell until they find the records showing you gave them permission. Also, be sure to let them know they can avoid your wrath and litigation by removing the inquiry.
