Hi, I was wondering what happens when you dispute an item on your report and the CRA was not able to verify the info. with the creditor during their investigation ?

The item is then deleted from your file.

Does this mean that a late is changed to "pays as agreed" or is the entire entry (CC, loan) deleted ?

Depends on the mood of the CRA. What they should do is simply delete the late pay(s). What I've seen done and what could happen is a total delete of the tradeline itself.

And of course once a positive tradeline is deleted, it almost never comes back.

I think it depends on what you disputed. If you disputed a late payment that showed up on your CR as "never late" and they could not verify that you were late then I would say your CR should be updated to "never late"
