I have recently recieved a credit report from all 3 major agencies & found to my surprise some things there that I did not even know about. I also found several things at zero balance from 96, 97 that are still reporting bad. My scoring was a pathetic 550! Anyways I am trying to rebuild my credit & I have sent certified letters stating that these accounts are inaccurate & need to be removed to all 3 agencies. Is there anything else I need to do other than wait & how many times do you have to send the letters normally before anything gets done? I am convinced that this stuff is so old that they will not be able to produce the proper verification within 30 days. Thanks,
don't be so convinced. I had some from late 95, early 96, and the oc's had no problem verifying. I was very surprised too. I finally got them removed, but don't count your chickens yet! sometimes the OC's really surprise you (and it just pisses me off! LOL) Odd are in your favor, however. I just didn't want you to get your hopes up, and have them come back verified. I was so upset when my first disputes were verified!!
One thing that may work with old accounts (did for me) is to call the OC if the CRA verifies, try a couple things. 1) Send a goodwill letter. Old lates are somewhat likely to be forgiven by the OC. Has worked for me a few times. 2) If goodwill letter doesn't work, tell them you didn't know there were any lates and that they need to provide you with a full record of the accounts and ALL notices that you were late at some point. If they can't provide that, threaten legal action for not having complete information and reporting things inaccurately. In your conversation act as if you had no idea the account was even yours. Say things like, "on this account which was allegedly mine, there are some alleged lates". That way, if you are recorded, they have nothing against you. Worked for me.
