Question to the wise persons of this board.

If I dispute a late payment on an account that had been paid-off and closed, will this restart the 7 year period that this stays on my credit report?

Is it easier to get something removed after an account had been paid off and closed?

    Will it restart it? No
Is it easier to get things removed from a closed account? Well, the older the account, the less likely the company has records of your lates.

In general, I have found it easier to get lates removed, or even the entire account, once an account has been paid. Not always, but more times than not, at least for me.

I will tell you to watch your reports carefully though after you have disputed a paid account-I had one creditor change me from an R1 to an R4 because they say that the account was paid 90 days late over 4 years ago. I didn't get an R4 on my report UNTIL I had disputed. This only happened on one out of probably eight paid accounts that I had disputed, and the creditor has always been a pain in the arse.
