Disputing Paid (after collection) Student Loan I disputed a government Student loan which was paid after default and collections. They date opened reported by Equifax (9/97) was different than date loan period began (8/94). I went into repayment on 3/97 and did not make a single payment. Loan went into default 9/97 which is the date of last activity per Equifax. I received a notice of result of investigation, where of course they verified all the original (and incorrect) information was correct plus they changed current status to 120 days late and included under additional comments that this was a paid collection Account. Equifax said they contacted the source directly and their investigation is complete. Proposed action: I'm about to send a letter to OC to validate the debt and request a complete payment history for the account. I am also going to send Equifax a request for investigation procedures. Questions: As a next step are the two Proposed actions above correct? If OC responds and sends me validation which will prove that Date opened is incorrect and that the non payments leading to my default began 4/97 what should I do? If OC does not respond what should my next action be? Send letter to CRA with intent to file complaint with FTC? Would the date used to determine 7 year removal be 9/97 or 4/97? Thanks for any comments and suggestions. -RexTitan
