Where in the FCRA does it state that there needs to be a detailed reason as why you are disputing an item?

Is it not enough to state that items are incorrect and inaccurate?
    I also see the following:

The key being that it does not include paragraph (1). If I say an item is incorrect and inacurrate - does the first paragraph require the CRA to investigate based on my disputing it alone?

This is letter I am planning to send to experian after they sent me a letter stating they would not investigate without specific reasons.

Hopefully my reasoning is sound... what do you folks think?

Does the above letter seem reasonable to anyone or should I rewrite to include reasoning and reset the day count?

    Parul,
Have you tried to simply submit the Experian dispute "online"? All you need is the "confirmation" number at the top of your past Experian report to enter a dispute online.

    1) you may be able to get the dispute entered without the above letter.

    2) the online system does NOT ask you for a "what is inaccurate about the account" simply has a check box or drop down box where one option is "Inaccurate"

The above letter is fine...but you may get the dispute entered faster and easier simply by using the online system.

I completely agree that it would be faster to use the online forum, but I wanted to keep the 30-day limit that was already established.

Is that a lost cause you figure?

Technically, no. They violated the FCRA by not accepting your dispute of "Inaccurate". But it would mean alot more work. I am a K.I.S.S. kind of person and I take the simpler, easier, route whenever possible.

    Sigh - good point.

Thanks for the advice - it is appreciated.

I will go and redispute them.

    Thanks!

No option for Inaccurate when I go look. Have they removed it? I have had to select 'Other' and manually enter a reason, the other choices are two narrow.

Just got off the phone with Experian. The CSR tried to tell me I couldn't dispute the same item as inaccurate again once it was verified!

He finally did after I convinced him that they could easily resubmit incorrect data, but he refused to mark as disputed the listings of NA for recent balance! Says that NA is the same as zero in their system!!!

Tell that to people with maxed credit utilization and no current balance on their cards...
