Do the CA's need authorization to operate in your state if they are attempting to collect from you. Example: The state of Maryland Central Collection Unit is trying to collect an alleged debt from me in New York where I now live that allegedly was incurred in Maryland. Can they do this or do they need authorization to operate in New York. Please provide link to case law.

Does a CA need wuthorization to operate in New York if they are trying to collect a debt from me and I live in the State of New York and they are headquartered in Maryland?

Collection agencies do not need to be licensed or bonded in NY, unless you live in Buffalo or NYC. Sorry. I tried that strategy when I lived in NY, too.
