I think we are giving the CRAs too much credit in this thread. They are simply out to make money (and minimize their losses). They are not hell-bent to defend every little thing that is disputed. No way they keep everything unless maybe they think they'r getting sued (back to minimizing losses).

Judging from what I see on the news, perhaps the key to keeping this stuff completely secret from the NSA is to send it to them UNshredded, certified mail, in an envelope with big bold black print: "WARNING. IMPORTANT INFO. MUST READ. NATIONAL SECURITY!! ATTACK COMING TOMORROW, GUY WILL BE WEARING WHITE "JiIHAD RULES" T-SHIRT, AT 1:47pm, will be at corner of Main St. and ......"

I'm sure they keep it all and have always assumed so, not because they are necessarily interested in covering their butts, I don't think the employees are or because they are interested in countering or trying to trip you up on disputes.

But because, they are in the CONSUMER reporting business, selling information -- they've huge boundaries and latitude as to what that information is.

For the moment they focus on credit related information that we've been brain-washed to believe are "credit" reports -- that's a dillusion.

Their business is selling information; the more they have the more market they can sell to.
