Ive been rebuilding my credit for about 3 years now. I was out of the country studying in Canada and my brother in the States wreaked havoc on my credit through joint cards and others, while I was gone. But its taking sooo long (I have bought and sold a few cars unfortunately in the meantime). Its back up to about 650 (Equifax) yet Trans and Experian show "poor" scores??? Anyway... Im on the verge of buying investment property and was wondering if credit repair co's really work? I dont mind paying as long as I can get 2-3 charge offs deleted. Please help!! And think twice about trusting your relative with money/your credit!!! ((.
The problem with repair companies... They can't do anything you can't do yourself, alot cheaper, if you have the time. Sometimes effective credit repair requires a multi-pronged approach. You have to send letters to the CRA and the OC...I don't believe they do that.

At the start of my credit repair venture I hired a credit repair service. What the credit repair service did was mailed out dispute letters on my behalf with my return address but from a different state. How did I know this? I started to get notices from the U.S. Postal Service that mailing with my return address not orginating from my home state is a postal violation. I ignored the first warning and the credit repair service continued to mail out the disputes. A second notice from my local postal master general stated that if I continued this violation the matter would be turned over to the postal inspectors for a criminal investigation. Enough is enough. I fired the credit repair service and started my own repair. There are some negatives that only time can remove but overall I managed to do everything on my own. There is no fast track in doing this as it does take dedication and time. Everyone's situation is different. This forum is IMHO the best of it's kind on the net. You have access to a wealth of information, read, learn and apply. Best regards, Mirage
I joined Lexington in November 2003 and they are very good at what they do for a reasonable monthly fee of $35/mo. I went in with 4 30day lates, 2-60 day late 1-90day late and they were able to remove all except for one 30 day late. I would recommend Lexington Law firm if you really don't have any time to do all the work that is involved in cleaning your reports. They are also backed up by the Better Business Bureau so that helped my decision as well. They also have a refund policy: (I took this from their site) Our service is backed by a warranty which entitles you to some or all of your money back if enough disputed items are not deleted. Put simply, we donâ??t believe you should have to pay for ineffective service. Here's how the warranty works. After you have been a client for 12 months, if you feel ambivalent about the success of our service you can request an evaluation of your account. You must send us current credit reports. We will calculate the total value of all successfully deleted and/or improved items and compare that amount to the fees you have paid us. If what you have paid exceeds the value of deleted items we will reimburse you the difference. To determine the total value of our service we count the number of items we successfully deleted from your credit report and multiply that by $50 per item. This does not mean that we will charge $50 in addition to our regular fees. Rather, we use the value of $50 per deleted item to determine if we created spectacular value for you (or not.)
