Well, I have a Beneficial LOC, but they sent it to me pre-approved. Educated guess says my score was in the mid 6's. My baddies were 99's (at the time!) We just went several months without paying them (job loss). I just signed papers today, reaging the account, and 5% interest for 5 years. Funny thing was, they cut me a check for $24.00!

They have been very helpful--$700 I don't have to try and get caught up. I will try a goodwill in the future to get the lates removed.

I know they are part of Household.

    The CL was 5K.

Call them before you cash the check and ask if you qualify for more. They will most likely give you an extra $1000 on the spot, but if you want more, they will pull your report.

Yea, I got a live check in the mail as well. Also got a letter a couple of days later that there was an extra $500 waiting for me if I came by their office and signed papers.

Didn't have a current mortgage, nor did I own a home. I honestly haven't had a bit of problem with them.

had a terrible experience with Beneficial b/f they were at Household-- I was young, dumb and broke... they sent me a pre-approved perosnal loan check and I took it (of course) and I couldn't pay it back (of course). Can't really say they were a bad company-- they just wanted their money back-- can't blame them.

Martysgirl, I don't know about blacklisted, but I tried to buy furniture and they went through beneficial and I got turned down in three seconds flat. I already had the GM Card and have since received Best Buy and Household Gold Mastercard. Seems really odd to me, but I never received a statement of the reasons so I can't tell you why.

On another topic...isn't Beneficial like finance company? Don't finance company tradelines like Beneficial, Household Finance, Kentucky Finance, etc. lower your score?

Thanks soooo much for your reply!

You are right, finance companies do lower your credit score.

Beneficial is a Finance Company. there name is
Beneficial Finance, lowering score dunnoo, it really depends on a persons overall credit, i guess It's because i have a 6 year old mortgage not threw them, and good tradelines, some people only have lots of credit cards and store cards and then they get a finance company tradeline, that's where it may lower your score. I also have Car Loan which is Installment Loan not threw them. to many revolving accounts does hurt your score. try to have mix, revolving, installment.

I had a charge-off with Beneficial which has since fallen off my credit report... and I do have a Household card. So I guess the short of it is-- no.

Several years ago I had a BJ's wholesale mastercard with Beneficial. They never raised the CL and it was a very low limit so eventually I dropped them. Now they send those checks everyone has been mentioning in the mail. They are usually for around 4,500 or so. Usually very strange amounts like 4,233.13 or something like that. They usually do have a statement stuffer that says I could have another 1,000 if I came into their office (so they could bug me to death in person I guess0. I've never cashed one and just tear them up and throw them away.
