i have a providian account and they haven't raised my limit in 3 years! i got the card when my credit wasn't so good and now it is... i would like to get rid of it but i have had it the longest so i have been advised not to delete your oldest account. they said that they don't accept line increase inquiries and they will "send me something" when they deem it worthy, but my account has been in good standing the whole time... never a late or missed... and i'm utilizing less than 10%...

    any suggestions?

    thanks

I had my Providian Gold Visa (upgraded to Plt) account since 2000 with a perfect payment history. Since it was my second cc post bk-13 I pretty much max out the card several times.

At the start the CLIs were fairly regular (guessing every 6 months) for the first year or two. And on the anniversary of my account I would get a small CLI. Then the CLIs stopped in 2002 but I did received a $60.00 CLI increase in 2003.

My bk-13 fell off in the 3rd quater of 2003 and I BT the remaining balance to my Amex Blue. Can't remember if the increase was right before or shortly after the BT but Providian increased my CL by $1500.00 (largest by far). I want to say right before, so I'm guessing that they did a routine soft inquiry and noticed that my CR was clean.

This card is in storage except for a trip to McDonalds every other month or so.

I also had another Providian (MC) Plt. that only received 1 CLI (that was within the first year of opening the account). I closed this account in 12/2003.

    Best regards,
    Mirage

I had and have a providian card. Started out as a classic (500 CL) with god-awful terms, upgraded to gold about a year later (4000 CL). Keeping the gold card, finally got to 8200. But the terms sucked so bad that I couldn't take it anymore. PFB,ed, called, wrote to get an upgrade to platinum. Nothing. They flat out refused to do anything, they even seemed happy that I closed it in early 2003

Fast forward several months later. A offer for a providian plat with the terms I was trying to get with my old card originally, appeared in my mailbox. Refused it at first, but they kept sending them every week in different packages. Finally broke down and applied. I am still enjoying the 0% intro purchase APR. Line started at 6K

the interesting thing is that my credit has been excellent for 2 years and i had gold cards which they upgraded to platinum, but still no increase... very frustrated and ready to close them!

thanks for your help... it's always good to see what others are getting... they are probably mad because i got them to lower my interest rate 2x and got them down VERY low, but i can't charge much on them.... meanwhile, i'm getting offers for cards with limits of 10,000-15,000 and wondering why i'm still with them when i can't even get 1000!

I have them, but just got them about 2 weeks ago. So I'm not sure about CLIs etc... I got approved for 12.99 $3000 CL with their Plat card. That was with a 770 on TU (My best CR by FAR) I imagine I prob would have gotten a higher limit except that the only things on TU is Cap1 with a $700 limit and a Kohl's with a $300 limit.

I held Providian from 1996-2003 (RIP). Started as $200 secured classic, ended as $12000 unsecured platinum. They wouldn't budge on APR though once my reports were clean, so I ended my relationship with them and moved on to bigger and better things...

They must be eager to change their portfolio again, as I just got them last week for the 12.99 PL offer with a $2500 CL w/ a 672 TU.

I'm just so glad to have a card again for my business expenses. It's no fun to have to ask for advances for big business trips or scrimp through a heavy month of business expenses until the check comes.

I have no intention of using it for anything else right now.

I had them from 1996-2003 too. They blow. I started with $300 classic and went up to $5500 Gold. Then when my reports reached 700+, not only would they not lower my APR, but they wouldn't even waive the annual fee! I canceled them. I would have just sock drawed them but I wasn't paying $59 every year to do it. They were good to me when I needed them, though.

I've had them since 1/99. Started at $300 unsecured at 23.99% or something like that. Currently have $8,900 CL at 16.99%. I really don't use them that much although they did offer me a 5.99% BT for the life of the transfer. From Providian, I figure that's pretty good. I've gotten regular increases from them so I can't complain.

I've had Providian since 2000. I can't recall what the limit started at - I think 2,000 - it's now at $7,100. A couple of years ago they removed my annual fee, but they have never lowered my interest rate which is at 17.99 - the highest of any of my cards. I actually just got a letter from them last week they were giving me a CLI of $500. It's the card that stays in the drawer though. All of my other cards have much lower interest rates and give me steady, larger CLI increases.

I have a Providian Platinum. Got it in May 2001 with a $10K limit. I actually charged it up to a high of $9,722; was not so good about controlling spending back then. Came to my senses and chopped the card up. Took about a year to pay off (just as the intro rate ended) and I never ordered a replacement card.

They gave me a $500 increase immediately after I paid it off and another $1500 I think around last November. I'm not even sure that my interest rate is at this point as I dont plan on using the card again.
