I have a few collection accounts on my reports that are for 3-5 year old accounts. However, the CA reports them as of like 2000 or 2001 making them look newer. Don't they have to report them according to the date of last activity, or date of delinquency according to the original creditor? Otherwise when one gives up and passes it on to another CA, it gets "newer" each time on my report when really it will be gone in another two or so years.
the date of first delinquency applies to the debt no matter how many hands it passes through: http://www.ftc.gov/os/statutes/fcra/amason.htm
So are they supposed to report it as such, or is it alright for them to report it from the date they got it? I know it's still going to be off my report in the 7 years from the original date, but it doesn't look like it the way they report it. For example, one has a "placed 3/2000 status 8/2000 collection account" notation but it will be removed in March of next year. So it looks like it's less than 2 years ago when really it was 6! I know this is hurting me because one of my "reasons" on my credit scores is too recent delinquency when really it's been five years since my last delinquency.
