I am thinking of opening a Citibank checking account in order to take advantage of the $75 bonus and possibly get a CC through them.

If I am just going to open the checking account now, will they do a hard inquiry on my CR?

In your Application for the account it probably gives them permission to pull your report.

    Therefore, they DO have PP.

You CAN however (PRIOR to opening your account) structure your transaction in such a way as to have them use a "soft" "account review".

You could do this, I believe, under the auspices that once I sign the PW the account is created and thus, your [subsequent] CR pull is after the account was created, which qualifies the pull as an AR.

But here's the important thing. If the 2 of you agree to this, then they'd better follow through.

If you don't mutually agree, even though you sign the PW, there still is No PP, because you did NOT have a meeting of the minds.

Mutual assent to a common agreement, (a meeting of the minds) MUST occur or there's no transaction.

    :)

Pulling a "HARD" credit report has a DETRIMENTAL AFFECT on my F.I.C.O. SCORE...you can pull 30 "SOFT" if you want but you will lose the business if you MUST PULL A "HARD"

I was going to do this too, as UBOC has pretty high fees, but I have heard nothing but bad things about citibank but would be interested if anyone has had good experiences with them, as they have the lowest account monthly charge if I lose my direct deposit for some reason one day.

I've had an account w/Citizens Bank for ten years. I opened a 2nd checking account to keep my kids' tuition expenses separate and to have a debit card that they could use online, again keeping all expenses in one account.

They told me it would be a soft, since they "had" to check identities since the patriot act. Whatever.

They pulled a hard, but I had it deleted. They actually sent me a form letter telling me how they had permission, but then they deleted it.

I've said it before, I'll say it again - this is the biggest fraud people are getting hit with everyday. They don't know how much it hurts their credit to get an interest free mattress for a year, change car insurance carriers or switch banks. Credit related hard inquiries are one thing, this is BS.

GET A COPY OF YOUR DRIVING RECORD AND INSURANCE RECORD AND GIVE IT TO THE BANK!!!

    NO ACCIDENTS
    NO CLAIMS
    NO TICKETS

PULLING A "HARD" FOR CHECKING IS LIKE PULLING A "HARD" TO SEE HOW YOU DRIVE

My experience with Citibank is positive! So far, the service offered is outstanding! I particularly like their online banking which include the ability to wire or transfer funds between institutiions online! I've been with Citi for 2+ years!

Of course, there is nothing wrong with them, except one NICE hard inquiry on the report. Speaking about this, how about BofA, Wachovia, HSBC bank or Fleet. Do they pull hard?

Wells Fargo pulls a hard to get an ATM card.

I purchased an existing corp. Had me added to the bank account and removed all other people from the bank account. No hard inquiry for this.

Two months later wanted an atm card to be able to make deposits locally.

They pulled a hard on me.

Wells Fargo pulls a hard enquiry just for sitting down and talking to a personal banker - this year they have pulled three on us - one for changing the type of savings account, one for opening a CD and another for a second CD a week later....get them to agree not to do beforehand and they enquiries still appeared - they are pretty good about taking them off if you complain a bit....

BoA didn't pull a hard for me. I had the account for maybe 6 months, I applied for their Plat Visa and that pulled a hard of corse, but nothing for the checking.

There was an article in our local Tampa paper yesterday ... banks are being required to pull credit by the new more stringent Know Your Customer rules. Anti-terrorism stuff.

Not sure if the banks are being real careful to pull soft rather than hard, and they may have no choice but to pull hard. Anyway, they have to use "non documentary" as well as "documentary" evidence (D/L, Passport, Birth Certificate, etc.), and that apparently means a CRA pull.
