When they closed down...what did they do w/the CC accounts? Did they sale the card, cancel them, or WHAT?

My friend has Uptons charge card on her CR that shows that it is still open. She found her old card and tried to call the phone number on the back of the card but it doesn't work.

Can anyone give us the scoop

    Thanks

Yeah I remeber them, there where on the east coast side, I remember seeing one in NC, when I was a kid. They primarily sell clothes for women

Not sure through, does she have a balance on the account. I probaly would not worry too much about it. They are no longer in business right??????????

Hey Martysgirl, I had an Upton's card and was dealing with this same situation over the summer. I got in touch with whoever is dealing with the collection accounts (some sort of collection agency, I would assume) and they said that there are no records of any accounts in existence other than the delinquent ones. I got Equifax to update it to closed, Experian verified it (LIARS) and TU just deleted it outright. Then when I pulled my reports recently, it had disappeared from EQ and EX altogether. So, the short answer to your question is, you can either leave it alone or if it's causing the reason code "Too many open accounts" to appear, just dispute the hell out of it and eventually it'll go away. Good luck!

PS--If I can find the # for the agency that took over the collection accounts, I will post it here, although it won't really help your friend if her account was current. :)
