Just talked with AOL - and I had picked the 9.95 light usage - not BYOA! I told them I screwed up - they credited my acct with $150, another $78, and changed me to $14.95. I do not pay for 10 months now - fine. Due to others here, I was going to ask for a credit back to the card - but this was a perfectlt acceptable arrangement. I think I was almost lucky - they are known to be dogs when it comes to money.... aarrfff - dogman
Marci, I think the problem I ran into is that either the user had unintentionally disallowed ie6 in the zone alarm software, or the settings got corrupt. You should not have to reinstall IE6. As far as installing zone alarm with the XP firewall, I would just use one or the other. There is no need to, and you can cause performance issues or other problems. From the Zone alarm site: 11. Do I gain from using an additional firewall in conjunction with ZoneAlarm Pro? Due to the potential for conflicts and problems that can arise from using multiple security software, Zone Labs recommends the use of ZoneAlarm Pro and an anti-virus scanner only. As far as generic host process for Win32 services(for the peice zone alarm is refering to) is a transport for DNS queries. Use the latest zone alarm with XP.
Okay, thanks. I read another message that said it was okay to use two installed firewalls together. I e-mailed Zone Alarm the question I asked you, but they haven't responded to me and I didn't see what they wrote above in their FAQ. Thanks,
] You don't need the XP firewall if your using Zone Alarm. If you don't want to mess with any settings, might I suggest BlackIce Defender. Provides Application protection as well and a bit easier to use/manage then Zone Alarm. I have used both and for non-firewall experts Blackice is simple. Zone Alarm can be simple but has a lot of complex features. Just my .02 cents. On another note, AOL still hasn't credited me the $129 they stole from MY checking account. I haven't used the service in years and they still keep it active as a FREE account. (Not charging me anymore), but they refuse to give me back my $129. Everytime I call, even now, they just add more free months of service. Again, I haven't used it in atleast a year and a half... but it I did login the other day to see if it still worked, and guess what? It does.
You can also keep your AOL email address for $2.95/month. You just access through www.aol.com. That way--if you receive alot of email to that address, you can keep it.
