It figures that a BMW dealer in Mountain View would act like that. They made too much money in 1999 and 2000, and it made them think they were untouchable. Then they got touched by the dot-com implosion, and they turned suspicious because so many people defaulted on their loans. Another great excuse to hate the public, for those who are so inclined.

Anyway, aren't there other BMW dealers in the Bay Area? Try one in the East Bay, Walnut Creek or Pleasanton or whatever. There's less tension out there because the economy is less distorted.

    O.k. Dog...here it is...

Take a road trip....I'm sure they won't b.s. you down there!

Check out that 2002 Z8! WOO!!!!!

I saw it last night on MTV Cribs. Downtown Julie Brown owns one. That is one CLEAN CAR!

Nothing tops the time me and my kids went down to LA and saw Samuel L. Jackson driving his drop top electric blue Bentley on the 405. We were driving along side of him and my kids were jumping up and down waving at him! He honked and waved back. I just pretend that I didn't see him (didn't want to look star struck) but my kids gave it away. Why was he driving like 55 mph with no traffic??? Is that the top speed on those suckers??? You'd think for $337K, they'd go a lot faster!

Hey - here's where I am in the process - because I guess I am in the process of getting a new ride..LOL!

Maxima appears for sale in paper beginning tomorrow -
    Basically a perfect 95 Maxima GLE /SR/Bose
90K miles. Original owner. All records. The best used Maxima in the Bay Area. New car arrived.
    $8000. Dogman 415-xxxxxxx.

Meanwhile I am checking all options.
The Allison BMW dude left me a message on my cellphone voicemail - and he asked where I was, and get this - "I am off tomorrow so you can talk to Earl." $40K all - and this jerk serves himself again.

GET THIS: The Infiniti G35 that was on sale which I looked at and did not want - (sand, brown cloth, - dealer installed sunroof - nope) ended up being bought by a dude who lives a block down from me LOL!

SAM - where are you guy? I need your input on your Audi - I am driving the 1.8T sat am.

Looks like the Maxima is sold.
Just talked to the Audi dealer - I believe it will be A4
    1.8T or 3.0 tomorrow.

    GREAT! Dogman

So you're gonna buy it or test drive and see if you like? Will they accept the Cap letter w/o inquiry or what?

    Hi MP$40 :)

yup - told the dealer (approved with Cap One) that I would put down $10K (Max for $8000 and my check for $2000).

No credit check necessary, but he said he would beat the hell out of the Cap One rate of 12.95%.

    MP - the car is about $30K - $10K = balance of $20K.
That is affordable to me - and I won't lose sleep about having a $40K debt for the BMW.

I have selected either light blue, tan leatherette is I get the 1.8T. IF I get the 3.0, I have told him I want black on black. Aside from 40 more HP in the 3.0, you get real leather and wood trim.

The 1.8T has "leatherette" and aluminum trim.

IF this guy buys it in a few minutes, I will drive the new Audi home tomorrow.

Can I flash your Plat Card?

That idiot at Allison did not bother to call me back - I guess business is terrific LOL!

Congrat's on nailing down a car, I agree that the new car smell and leather seats can be intoxicating...

I have been smiling all the way through this post. =Y'all are too funny. I guess I am excited about the thought of perhaps getting a new car in the next few months, but a Ford Focus isn't probably in the same class of excitement as the choices that you guys are talking about.

And, one female's observation: a spiffy looking car with powerful engine is a positive, though I wouldn't get all that hot and bothered over it. LOL...I would rather date someone driving the Maxima with a few of those "desirable qualities" we females seek in a significant other...much more important than someone who's got a 35-40K vehicle, teamed up with some less than desirable qualities...

one of the best guys I have recently dated drove an 84 BMW that he had rehabbed, much like the discussion above. Hot engine, new transmission, did the work himself, added some kind of souped up exhaust, AC was out & it needed new paint job to go with the revamped interior...But, I considered that the best transportation at the time, because of who was behind the wheel. And since it was summer, and there was no AC and it was Texas, that should tell ya !

But hey, dogman, I bet you're a pretty great guy, and the car will be VA-Voom, too>>>

Good luck in getting the deal squared away on one car or the other. When you decide, and you get your loan, will you tell us what route you went, and what your were offered that would beat CAP1 ?

    Beep, beep...:) :)_

    Dogman,

Don't take that lousy cap one rate. The dealer will get you under 9% for sure. You can probably get something close to 6% from vw finance.

And good news guys - I just checked my EQX - and with the disputes, it hit 635! Up 9 points this week - right before they tap the credit and get a rate like you guys say! I will only use Cap One as a backup now - !

I downloaded the Release of Liability form from the DMV and signed it - for the receipt to him - and obviously for my protection.

We meet at his bank tomorrow, I get the cash, he gets the car and title and drops me off at HERTZ - to drive to the Audi...LOL

    Dogman-

I'll chime in hear because I've purchased my last 2 vehicles with preapprovals from E-LOAN. Both times the deals where done within 2 years. Basically we settled on a price and signed the paperwork. Neither time was another credit report pulled.

Oh yeah, get a Mercedes! I got one last month and absolutely love it. E320 w/ the sport package. Jet Black.
