Hi, My wife and I are renting a car from Dollar Rent-A-Car... the policy is that if we use our USAA debit mastercard... they will do credit check.... I quote (from dollar website): -------------------------------------- 1.9 Debit Card usage: It is Dollar Rent A Car's policy to perform a credit inquiry on customers who present a debit card as payment at the time of rental. Dollar has contracted with Equifax Credit Information Services, Inc. to perform a CARcredit99Score. This type of inquiry is a credit evaluation service for the automobile financing and leasing industries. The credit inquiry is posted on the customer's credit report and may have an effect on the customer's credit evaluation. In the event that a customer's credit score does not meet the minimum required by Dollar Rent A Car, the customer will not be allowed to rent or provide another form of payment. Dollar's debit card policy complies with all applicable federal and state laws. --------------------------------------- Do anyone know what's the minimum score to rent their cars? does our recently 7/03 Bankruptcy CH7 affect it? I can understand where Dollar is coming from, but why is this treated as a hard inquiry? Equifax should create a classification for the inquiries not related to credit (insurance, car rentals, etc.) that would be treated as soft. And for those that might argue otherwise, car rentals are not credit. The rent is paid in advance. The credit pull is intended to reduce a potential risk of loss due to physical damage - no debt is created.
