Don't Apply With Chase

I recently ended my relationship with Chase Manhattan Bank because of a poor customer service experience. When I moved recently, after two calls and two written requests Chase twice failed to enter my new address in their system, causing my statements to be late twice and my APR on my Chase Gold MasterCard to increase to 21.4%. I tried to explain the situation to the Customer Service Rep, but was told that I would have to wait six months for review of the account.

When I told the Customer Service Rep I thought this was an inane policy and that I would inform others to not use Chase products, she informed me that if the people I hang out with are financially irresponsible like me, I could tell them on Chase's behalf that Chase did not want their business. I notified the Customer Service Department by letter of this incident, and as you might expect, I received no response except for a form letter indicating my account would be reviewed in six months.

I have since closed my account and tranferred my balance to another account. I would encourage others to do the same. To the uninitiated, avoid Chase products. To the unfortunate persons who have a relationship with Chase, I encourage you to engage in guerrilla tactics -- move your money, close your account, check your credit reports, and if you have problems thereafter, contact an attorney or consult a how-to book and threaten legal action.

Thank you for the opportunity to share my story. "The Right Relationship Means Nothing" - The Worst Bank in the Universe!

i just moved myself and sent a change of address through their website. a day later i got a confirmation that it was changed and all my bills are now being sent to my new address. it's irrelevant though since i also have a checking account with chase and just pay online. much easier than paying by mail.

and i opened a new credit card with them and got 0% for 12 months for balance transfers, and even got points for the balance transfer i just did! there was also no transaction fee charged.

That CSR was way out of line with you. But this just proves that all the CC companies are pretty much alike - they hire losers to speak for them and in reality don't really care in the first place.

From now on ALWAYs pay online if possible - it avoids a lot of payment issues like this.

Here's another vote for doing stuff online.

I have Chase, Amex, National City, and BofA. I take care of EVERYTHING online and have NEVER had any problems doing so. No waste of stamps, time, or money. Everyone should be doing this unless of course, you dont' have access to the net. But if you're posting here - then you obviously have access to the net.

Unless you have one of the stinker cards that don't do online payments (cough...Corvette...cough). Even when I send them a payment through my bank's bill pay, it's at least 7-8 days for it to get there and post.

    badgirl,

What a coincidence! Believe it or not, this morning I read the exact same letter word-for-word at the ChaseBankSucks.com website (the 10th entry in):

    http://www.chasebanksucks.com/creditcardssuck1.html

These letters date back to 1998. Are you this person, or do you just have a personal axe to grind against Chase?

Either way, thanks for the heads-up! I too was thinking about opening up an acct with Chase, but their stringent application process is not worth the trouble since Chase has high rates on even their best credit cards (8.9 - 10.9%)!

No thanks, I'll just stick to my Cap One 11K @ 7.9%F on purch, cash adv, & b/t for now...

Chase can be good or bad
I have 5.99 % On Purchase and APR with teasers between 0% and 3.99%.

That's not bad! I'm still skeptical, but could you tell me: Which Chase card is this, and how long have you had the card? Did you have to call retention or some such department to get the rate that low, or do you just have phenomenal credit scores?

    Thanks!

    I agree: do EVERYTHING online!

One of the first things that brought me on the road to recovery was online bill pay, electronic statements & paying directly on the card issuers website. Haven't been late on a bill in 4 years.

As for Chase...they cancelled my student card in '92...never approved me for any applications until last summer, now have a Plat. Visa & just got a Continental OnePass Plat MC, use only for BTs at the moment.

Re: Re: Don't Apply With Chase

I have had the Chase Platinum for quite a few years.
With Chase the only number to use is the retention number and all my other cards for that matter.
Certainly they will want to see a score that they deem appropriate also they like to see allot of usage and large payments.
Like any Prime lender they want to keep your business if you demonstrate that you prefer their card over a competitors they will give you the best terms.
    Good Luck
