The reason your score went down could be from a couple reasons. 1 the scores change by themselves because their predictive software goes through the credit bureaus database and figures out what factors caused people like you to become delinquent. My score went down about forty points without anything changing on my credit report and my new number 1 reason for not getting a higher score is, you guessed it, too many bankcards. Incidently they include closed accounts in the number of bankcards you have, but not lost or stolen accounts. 2 You very likely are scored on a new scorecard(there are supposed to be about 10 scorecards on the old FICO according to Fair Isaac).

A couple of suggestions for upping your score--try getting at least one installment loan on your report, it can often substantially up your score. If you still have those old credit cards open maybe you can add yourself as an authorized user to your own account. Lastly dispute old cc accounts that don't really help your credit history.

    Hope this helps.

I have a car loan 4 months old that has not yet started to report... I was kind of afraid this would actually HURT my score b/c it is 1) New credit and 2) high balance... but maybe not. Something different to look forward to I guess.
