Is it absolutely necessary to include a copy of my driver's licence for id purposes when disputing by mail? My drivers licence has my old address on it...the one I recently had removed from my credit bureau reports, so it wouldn't be wise to send that it. The utility bills are in wife's name. Can I just send a copy of my ss card and a credit card bill? Will that be enough to verify my identification? I'm looking to dispute equifax. thanks Luke
That should work...but in the past I always sent a copy of my social security card and driver's license. Some here would argue that neither is necessary, but I ran into far fewer problems doing it that way. It shouldn't cost more than a couple of bucks and a few minutes of your time to get a new driver's license with your new address on it. Why not get one? Besides, if you are pulled over and they realize that you no longer live at the address on your driver's license, some cops might give you a little grief. Buckets
I am kind of in the same boat. My license has an old address on it. I moved to Oklahoma and in order to get a license here I first have to put a new plate on my car (not a big concern had I not had to renew plates in Missouri 2 weeks before moving), on top of this OK wants to charge me about $85 to put a license plate on my 12 year old car. in Missouri the plate only costs $20. Then when you actually get to go get your driver's license, OK wants to charge you like $38 for it and will take my old license. I just drove back to Missouri to renew my driver's license, which was about $15 for 6 YEARS. or you can renew it for 3 years for 7.50. OK is a rip off state for licenses. Maybe if they'd sell liquor beyond a single state liquor store per city or county they would realize a flood of new tax money. I don't drink but recognize that it isnt harmful to do this. I was raised in Missouri where they sell liquor in Wal-Mart and every other store for that matter. Of course I'm sure if some of these Okies drove up into Missouri and go down the street and see bar-catholic church-bar-catholic church, walk-mart-bar-catholic church..heheh they also participate in a lottery which OK doesn't have either,, again not that I ever played the lotto more than once a year, but it generated tax money. states like the one I live in are the reason I have to go out of state to of all things renew my license. And Before ya ask I moved here in ignorance and now have to honor my lease. Did I mention the tax rate here is a hair over 9%?? next time... MORE research!
Equifax told me that a CDL is not required, but it helps. Not everyone with credit has a license. According to the reps you need 2 proof of address and something with your SS# on it.
I have a special little trick I use that at least saves paper and a bit on copy costs. I place the DL and the SS one above the other in the upper left hand quadrant of an 8½ by 11 sheet of paper placed on the copier and then set the copier for a 200% blowup and the lightest possible contrast. By doing that they come out just exactly centered on the copies and plenty big enough to be plainly visible. I save a bit on copy costs that way and I also save a bit on postage costs at times too.
NO! Have your bank notarize your dispute if necessary. They check your DL in the process and declare that you ARE who you say you are.
That's a pretty good idea Butch and while I'm not saying that it won't work I do tend to have my doubts. Here is why. Notaries are not responsible for the content of anything they notarize which means that you could type up a statement swearing that you live in Alaska when in truth you live in Florida and have it notarized in Alaska and the notary can even be well aware that the statement is a total lie and notarize it and still has done nothing wrong. All that their signature and seal does is testify that they know that you are who you say you are and are the person who signed the document and that they have been provided with proof of those two facts.
Don't send the license copy if you don't want to and see what happens... If they say you must have it... Tell them you are in a "VAN-POOL" you don't have to drive anywhere...so you don't need a license!!! ASK THEM IF THEY CAN PROVE THAT YOU ARE NOT WHO YOU SAY YOU ARE?!?!?!
