Equifax Help! I have a duplicate account on my Equifax report. The (1)account is a paid chargeoff from 1996 and the(2) original account with the late pays from 1996. I have dispute the original account with Equifax, which comes back verified each time. I have spoken to the the original creditor. The creditor stated the original acct should have been deleted this was 2 months ago. What can I do to have this information deleted ASAP?
Re: Equifax Help! I had a similar situation with a collection from 1996. Mine fell off of my credit reports 4-6 months prior to the date they were suppose to. I sent several letters, one from this board asking for the procedures they used to verify the debt. I believe that they saw that the debt was suppose to expire within a 4-6 months and deleted it, instead of verifying it. So check the letters sections and tailor the letter towards your situation. Also, if you really want to, you can work both ends of the debt, by appealing to the original creditors. Inform them that you are aware of your mistake and you have paid for the mistake for over 6 years and if they could please remove the debt as an act of kindness, since you did pay the debt. Make sure you do everything in writing. good luck
