I was reading an old post about duplicate accounts. I had an account with FCNB that went into collections in january 1999. they sent the account to midland credit management. I paid the collection agency in full in april 2003. this was the beginning of fixing my credit. well midland credit is reporting as well as fcnb only on my equifax (experian and transunion deleted after the first letter sent). this is what the accounts says

fcnb: Account # 740694*; opened 12/1998; high credit $305; date of last activity 3/1999; current status: charge off; additional information: account transferred/sold charge off account.

midland: account # FCNB 850230*; opened (no date); high credit $374; date of last activity 1/1999; current status: over 120 days past due; type of account - open; additional information: paid collection

i have sent over 6 letters toequifax and midland requesting them to delete or at least merge the info. they consider it frivilous because the account is paid. but to anyone looking at my report would think this is two separate accounts. please advise. what ca i do to have this removed? the cra's will not help me.

Unfortunately, THESE ARE NOT DUPLICATE ACCOUNTS...

When an account is sold, the OC can still report the account, as long as the account is being reported as a ZERO BALANCE AND/OR TRANSFERRED OR SOLD, the CA can report the account WITH A BALANCE.

When an account is assigned, both the OC and the CA can report the account WITH A BALANCE!

It doesn't matter if the two accounts are actually for the SAME DEBT, they are DIFFERENT ACCOUNTS to two DIFFERENT COMPANIES.

When you run into a 'frivelous' response, you need to change the weapon you use to attack the trade line.

hint 1: Can an account have been opened on NO DATE?

hint 2: Can a PAID account be 120 days late currently?

This is a prime example of why PAYING a debt doesn't REPAIR your credit.

Now, instead of having one negative account, you have two of them, and they may be cemented to your credit file, if you can't find a way to blast them off.
