Krossing fingers as I answer this, cause I'm telling you what I've read, and from what I understand...

Ya, they can both be listed on yer report, cause the original creditor was yours from the beginning when ya made the debt, and the CA is there on your reports from having the debt now.

BUT, once the CA gets the account from the original creditor, then the balance on the original creditor listing has to zero out/become zero.

I too am wondering about this. I have the same account on my report 3 times, the original, then a collection agency, then another collection agency.
That would make sense that they should move the amount to zero, but mine have not.

Got it from a good source, that ya, they (original creditor and the collection agency), can both still report, and like I said, the original creditor has to zero out.

The multiple Ca's could be from them repeatedly selling it, or tradin it to one another, and she said that when the next collection agency gets it, the previous one has to zero out.

Thanks...I have disputed this MANY times, but the original creditor STILL "confirms" the balance....even though the account has been sold. How do I get the original creditor to zero out the balance? What should my next step be?

I asked Jackie, and she said:

"First - let him know that this might not work for everyone, but according to what you showed me, this is what I find the quickest:

Tell talkcredit to find EVERYTHING that's wrong with the listing (without him admitting he knows from it being his), and attack it from the bureau - even though what's wrong with it might have come from the OC itself. We need to attack the bureau, because he's probably exhausted himself with the OC.

Then tell him to start taking it apart with the bureau, and don't do too many disputes at one time on it, and make sure he doesn't cross his disputes (wordwise), because when he does the disputes, he CANNOT ever word it such that he's saying the account is his.

And - Let him know that his goal isn't to get it 'corrected', his goal is to get it gone :)

    I wish him luck."

I copied it as she gave it to me, cause I don't do all that fancy talk...haha.
