Hello all, On my Experian credit report, I have one negative tradeline from a student loan. It correctly states that I was 60+ days late once for a payment back in 1998. I called the student loan organization to ask if they could at least update the account to a positive status, if not remove the item altogether, because the item is very old and I was late only once. They told me to write them a letter with a copy of the credit report with the tradeline highlighted and I did. A few months after that, I got my Experian report again, only to find that instead of updating the existing tradeline, they added a new one! Now I have duplicate accounts with one marked as negative and the other as positive. I used the Investigation Request thing on Experian explaining that there were duplicate entries and that the negative one should be removed. Nothing happened and item remains. What can I do to remove this one negative item that the student loan organization has already granted me? -Drew
First of all welcome to the board! I'm still somewhat of a newbie myself, but here goes ... You didn't say how long ago you requested Experian to investigate your disputed negative trade line. They have 30 days to investigate, and in my experience, they usually will take the full amount of time before you see any action. Does your online Experian report show the disputed item with a blue background, or does it say "this item is currently under investigation"? That would mean its being looked into (somewhere within the 30 day investigation period). It usually takes about a week or so from making the dispute to them showing that the dispute is under investigation. If this is the case, you'll have to sit tight for a month. This dispute is gonna have to go through the same 30-day process as all the other disputes. If it has been more than 30 days since you disputed with Experian, what did they tell you was the outcome of their investigation? Did they say the negative account was verified? If so, then you need to do a procedure request (making them show you how they got the information verified) or dispute it with them again. Do you have anything in writing from the creditor That might help to send that to Experian. Another possibility (although its slim) is that the student loan creditor might not have gotten through a "reporting cycle" to remove the negative entry yet ... however, that's probably not the case as they have had enough time to "add" a positive tradeline since you talked to them. I hope this helps. peace, delilah
