duplicates- yes or no

    I have been fighting with a CA for months now about a small utility collection - it REALLY isn't mine. Sometime during the validation/disputes, the CA decided to change the account number. As a result, they posted a new tradeline on my report. I disputed the tradeline as a duplicate and (as expected) the CA verified, so the 2 tradelines remain. I called TU to ask how they let this happen. The TU rep said that they are not duplicates since the balance on one of the entries is 0 and they have different account numbers. They reference the same collection account at the same CA-- this is a cut and dry duplicate entry, right? They are obiviously being malicious, but is this legal?

    Stop fighting and send validation for both accts to CA - they definitely cannot validate at least one of them.
