I ordered DSL and then realized I don't need it. I never hooked it up, but Earthlink says that the act of ordering it equals a contract. That if I want to cancel I owe them a $150 fee. I have already been charged $100 for set up fee and $50 on my credit card for usage (I haven't set it up or used it yet). Can they do this? There is a cntract on their site which they say I'm bound by, but I never signed anything.
Sorry, you owe them the $150 - you should read the service agreements before you sign up for stuff. A digital signature is a legal signature, it doesn't matter that you signed up over the internet. https://register.earthlink.net/cgi-...ree.html?drn=1d26ce1e66d60ca3dbc9a3f7113a02cd
I was looking into MSN dsl recently. Thier deal looked good cause it says "free modum, no term commitments". When I dug a bit further on their site, I saw a similar statement "if you cancel before a year we will charge you $100 (can't remember exact figure) for the modum." I was taking the "no term commitment" to mean that I could cancel at any time, but not so. I guess I'm just cynical cause it sounded too good to be true! LOL! And I was right. Comcast told me right upfront that what I would owe etc. Sometimes we just have to be really careful. Newstdt
