EBAY MC - Applied, but.............

Most of my fellow card gurus probably know that there is now an EBAY Mastercard. When filling out the application, it is clear that you may have 2 inquiries as MBNA and Providian will issue the card. Basically, if you don't qulify for the prime card with MBNA, it will be passed on to Providian.

I did not get an instant approval but I don't think anyone will - I may be wrong. Here is my question - for those of you that applied for it, did any of you have 2 inquiries show up on your CR? The only one that shows for me is MBNA. Although, it is probably more wishful thinking than anything else, I am hoping that MBNA approved and therefore did not need to pass to Providian, thus, no inquiry.

    Anyone?

I "THINK" it is only passed on to PROVIDIAN "IF" you don't qualify with MBNA

My thoughts exactly. I was hoping to hear from somebody that had 2 inquiries show up instantly. You would think that they would have a pretty automated system and be able to tell right away if I did or didn't pass the test. Hopefully, they would pass to Providian right away should the need arise.

    Ahhhhhhhhhhh.............the waiting game.

I applied to Providian recently and got an instant rejection w/no inquiry. The consensus, when I asked here, was that Providian keeps a list of people who went BK (I did, but did not include them!) and checks their blacklist first.

So if I were applying, I'd see an inquiry from MBNA and if they passed me on to Providian, no inquiry since I'm on their list of "bad people".

Not saying that's the case for you, just giving you another potential scenario.

Not disputing the evidence, but, I have never filed and I have never applied for or had a Providian account. They have, however, pulled my CR in the past. Not sure why they pulled it though.

My brother just applied for Ebay MC and he got message: he will received response within 30 days from the mail. I guess it has no instant approval. MBNA usually doesn't give instant credit decision except Apple Instant Loan and Gateway. MBNA usually pulled credit from TransUnion where I live in Texas.

So it looks like you don't have a choice in the matter. If you expect MBNA to ask your permission of notify you that Providian is reviewing the app, forget about it. There will surely be some surprised people when opening up their mail with the eBay MC inside!!

So, can you PFB MBNA for reconsideration if you don't like the Providian issued card? Hmmm, we'll find out in due time I guess

I'm not really understanding what your stating. The only surprises would come if you didn't read the app. It stated loud and clear that if your credit sucks Prividian will be there to give you a crap offer. That is if you fall in to the crap offer vicinity.

I am not sure who all this applies to but I do know I am surprised anytime I get a card in the mail. Don't these guys read my reports. Chances are they'll have to charge it off :)

MBNA is like that. And it doesn't get any better when you get the card, as far as I'm concerned.

I think more than 2 inquiries is too many, and one late payment 6 years ago disqualifies you. In fact, they told a friend of mine who had impeccable credit (and they denied him) that if they can find ONE negative item, you're declined.

I'm not sure what card that was for, but I've seen a lot of rate jacking and line decreases out of them. As soon as one of my cards was bought by them, I paid it off and closed it. I'm not even giving them a chance!!

Sorry, but that is not true, well not for everyone. Wife got one with 2 30-day lates, both over 4 years ago. Of course I got denied due to my BK, everything else is clean. I think they liked the fact that her history spans back some 10 years with a couple cards and the fact we are homeowners. Take that out of the equation, she may have very well been denied due to the 30-day lates.
