I sold an itemon EBAY and got payment from buyer thru PAYPAL. Buyer used a CC. Buyer lied about the descriptin of item not being accurate to PAYPAL. Never filed a complaint with EBAY. I know for a fact the buyer found the item cheaper after receiving it and paying me thru PAYPAL. I got my money from PAYPAL. Here is the problem. PAYPAL allowed the buyer to demand a refund from me. I refused. Buyer disputed with his CC company and PAYPAL was forced to charge back the amount to my account. Now PAYPAL has sent my acct to a CA for collection and I just rceived the first CA letter. What do I do? The buyer knew I sold the item with no refund policy except for damage in shipping. Here is the funny part. I have yet to receive back the item from the buyer. He got the item and his money back from PAYPAL. PAYPAL never got my SS#. How can they or CA report me to CRA without valid SS#?
Unfortunately, PayPal isn't the one who allowed the customer their money back, when a company receives a chargeback, there is little choice in the matter, they only have x days to respond before their merchant back reverses the charges automatically. Your only recourse could possibly be to try to see if you can go after the customer either civilly or criminally since they have not returned the item which they charged back for. I had a different problem when someone, somehow attempted to make 2 back-to-back $1,000 debits from my PayPal account, and dispite canceling the transactions the minute I received the invoices for the transaction, they had already liquidated the funds in the account that they used to get the funds from. But, you should have received a whole slew of e-mails from PayPal probably every other day the second your account had a negative balance. I was receiving e-mails every day or so while the account was negative $2,000 from canceling the fraudulent transactions, and while I was waiting for them to process the paperwork. These e-mails said that if the negative balance wasn't corrected immediately, they would turn the account over to collections, but in the two-three weeks that the paperwork was pending, it didn't go to collections.
It sucks, I had a buyer contact PayPal and disputed the charges as not received. We shipped all items via USPS with Delivery Confirmation. He even wrote me to tell me he received it but it was not what he expected. PayPal did not care. In the end, I never got the item back, Pay-Pal gave him his money back and I lost alot of money! I'm now a firm believer in: In God I trust, All others pay Cash - Money Order or Western Union! No PayPal here. I could go on telling you worse PayPal stories. I was a Plat Dealer on E-Bay and still do well but not with PayPal.
Yes paypal is evil, very very evil. They screw the honest people while the actual scammers get away clean. I have 2 checking accounts, the second I get money it goes into the checking account linked to paypal, and then that money gets transfered RIGHT into my other account. That way if anyone ever tries to get money back from me on a honest deal they wont get it. It doesnt protect you against paypal themselves, BUT it does protect you against dishonest buyers... because the problem with paypal is.. if they buyer asks for his money back paypal usually will give it to him, and then ask questions later, while during the meantime he withdraws the money and gets it out, and then paypal if they find in your favor, can't get the money back.
Right. Since the dirtbag paid with his CC, I believe PAYPAL had to refund it to him. They did it without even asking me any questions. Had the buyer complained to Ebay first, they would have told him the purchase was finiale but he knew this and never complained to Ebay. So now, PAYPAL just hits my account for the amout of the refund and I get blasted with emails from them for 6+ months or so. THen, I get this CA letter. I informed the CA that I never heard of PAYPAL or EBAY and the account and balance was not mine. Its over $1000. I got paid so the dirtbag buyer did not scam me. I am just wondering how the CA or PAYPAL can report me to any CRA when I never had any credit agreement with PAYPAL. If they do I will probably have to Sue PAYAPL and drag them into court and prove my sale was valid. I will probably have to Sue Ebay as well. Funny thing is the item has still not been returned and this dirtbag either has it or Ebay or PAYPAL has it. PAYPAL never sais anything but your account is NEGATIVE, please send money. HA HA HA I closed the bank account I received payment thru and it was a business account not associated with my name or SS#. So there is no way for any CA to trace the account to me. I guess I will just deny the accout and force the CA and PAYPAL to do a proper Validation. Its very unlikely they can present any validation that will hold up in court. What do you think? Anyone else in here have similar PAYPAL problems?
What many scammers do is get a seller to ship to an "unconfirmed" address. If, as a seller, you ship to an "unconfirmed" address, the buyer can say he never received it, and you are SOL. Tip: Only deal with people who are "confirmed." It's that easy.
