Effects of disputes on scores

I'd like to know what kind of effect disputing something has on FICO score.

I recently disputed some items on my credit report and haven't seen any change from the three major monitoring services, so I was wondering if it just happens in the background and doesn't show up immediately.

Also, what kind of effects should disputing have on the score? Say I dispute three collection accounts as not mine...any guesses?

    Thanks..

When I dispute 1 30 day late from 6 years ago it jumps 24 points, but I'm sure it's different with every report for a variety of reasons.

Im suprised you got a 24 point jump. If its 6 years old it should not bring down your score that much. I disputed my only negitive tradeline. from 3 years ago, and i had no change in score.

Remember once you dispute all your negs fico will look for something else neg. ie, your Ult.% .

So if you want the absolute max score get your ult low before you dispute. Make sure each account is below 30%. You can have a 22% ult. However if you have one account that is above 50% that will bring your score down.

I never get anything from a dispute...

BUT then I don't have any "BADDIES"...all I have is wrong balances, open as closed, closed as open, missing credit limit...

If I get anything it is just a couple of points when the balance goes down...

Depends on the CRA. Equifax definitely will omit the disputed item, thereby not factoring it into the FICO score. Experian's credit expert, of course is not a true FICO score and Trans Union's FICO doesn't seem to make any difference on my scores. I don't know if it matters whether or not the CRA reports "dispute" or the furnisher, this could be a factor as well. Hope that helps.
