I noticed an inquiry on my credit report from "Mercury Insurance", dated 9/2001. I looked them up online and found out they are an auto insurance company. They have no email or address listed...just an 800 #. I prefer to do all my communications w/ creditors etc. by mail, but the only addresses they have listed are for their offices in each state. I want to get the inquiry removed, I have way too many as it is (only 2 out of the 14 I recognize!). Should I send my dispute letter to their office in NY (state I live in)? I'm just afraid if I send it to the wrong place, it will get thrown out. Thanks.

It is most likely a PRM inquiry. (promotional) It doesn't affect your score.

How can I tell which ones are promo inquiries? All of the ones listed on my report look the same.

On Equifax it will have a PRM in front of it like
    PRM-Wells Fargo
The other reports have the inquiries broken down into sections with an explanation for each section. What report is it on?

I got my 3 in 1 report from TrueCredit. It's listed under the inquiry section. I know I shouldn't be so concerned with the inquiries right now- I've got bigger fish to fry...but there are a lot of them on there that I know I never authorized.

TrueCredit only lists "hard inquiries". So you don't even see PRM's on thier combined report. They also don't provide contact info for anyone except those also reporting a tradeline.

So then I should go ahead and dispute all those inquiries on my report? How hard is it to remove an inquiry?
