Employer American Express

    Hello there,

I have a second question that I hope is really short. Any assistance is appreciated.

I had a credit card from an employer issued to me through American Express. It was to be used for business purposes only.

Basically, I went on one business trip (of course it was approved by the higher management). As part of the trip, I had to stay in a hotel and pick up a rental car. Then, while I was on the job, they had asked me to stay out for a longer period of time.

When it was over, I had to catch the plane. I picked up the receipt they gave me and then hopped on the plane and headed back (btw, this was Hertz).

I filed the receipts for reimbursement. Then, 1 month later, we were laid off and the plant had shut down. I turned in the credit card. They then sent me a letter saying that I owed $600 more. It was because Hertz had added automatically charged the additional money to my AE card (without my knowledge) for the extra week stayed.

I told AE that it was a company card, that I no longer worked for the company and that they should get it from them. AE tried to pressure me to get the money myself (even though I had pretty much been cut off from the company). They then sent me a letter stating that they were going to mess up my credit. I went to the people who sent me (contracted me) out. They told me it was too late to get money from them and that they would not pay. I then went to the people for whom I did the work for. They paid the amount to me (or so they say).

I forwarded the money to AE but an unfavorable mark is STILL on my credit report even though they have been paid. I was angry because my credit is being affected by a bank card from my employer.

What can I do to get this off?

Any help, hints or advice would be most graciously appreciated ;-)

I would like to bump this one also. I am in Korea right now using a corporate Amex that the multinational I work for pretty much forced me into getting.(it is my policy never to do buisness with Amex). They are in trouble and could go belly up any minute now. Am I left hung out to dry on the charges if they do?

    Welcome aboard Cathy,

You most likely signed for the AX card as a "joint account holder".

In these cases if one party fails to pay they do have the right to demand pmt. from the other party, in this case you.

If you signed as an "authorized user", (AU) (and this answeres Let's question) then you are NOT responsible.

In Cathy's case it would have been best to just pay it and then demand pmt. from the company. A law suit would have been in order in this case. This would have protected your credit.

You BOTH must find out what your contractual obligation is for the card. If you're an AU great. If you're a joint holder understand that YOU ARE mutually obligated. You are co-signing for a loan.

Therefore, make absolutely certain that the company PAYS this card IN FULL no less frequently than every 2 weeks.

Don't let the balance on the card get unmanageable in case you do have to pay it yourself.

    See?

    :)

I believe the AMEX agreement states that AU can be held liable for their own charges.

When you sign the purchase receipt, you are signing that you will pay the charges. Amex does take the position that AU's are responsible for their own charges.
