My employer is forcing me to get a blackberry (wireless email communication device) from AT&T wireless (cingular) through a 3rd party retailer using my credit card, who wants my SS# and driver's license number. (for the stated purpose of "information collected is required by AT&T for credit review and account approval." However, it is not diclosed specifically that they will be checking my credit report with the three agencies) So this probably would result in a ding to my credit score in the form of a hard credit check. My employer does plan on reimbursing me for the monthly expense. I would be responsible for the contract as it would be between myself and AT&T directly . (presumably I would be responsible for any early termination fees as well, of course this is not spelled out by my employer). Besides quitting my job, do I have any other remedies available to me? Protection under credit laws? What would you do? Does the third party reseller incur potential liability if a credit-check is done?
Yes, they will pull a CR- probably EX, but not all 3 http://finance.groups.yahoo.com/group/whopulledmycredit/ A credit check is standard procedure for a wireless account with a contract. If you're worried about being declined- talk to your boss & see if you can find another solution.... Call at&t wireless to see if there are any alternatives... I use at&t's go phone service to avoid the contract... Any time you make changes in (regular/contractual) service - the providers want to you to sign a new 2 year contract..... just another form of revolving debt... S23
In brief, request something in writing from your employer regarding expense policies. Most companies have some sort of policy. If the policy does not address items such as paying the early termination fee in the event of a seperation, then request something in writing. This is just good business; do not worry about angering your employer with this request, they will respect your business like attitude. If they balk, or refuse, then this is a red flag! Stall getting the Blackberry while you start looking for another job!
