I have a couple of medical bills that went to collections for er visits for my kids (no insurance at the time). I have been working for this hospital for 5.5 years. Do you think they will remove it from my CR if I pay the bills in full?
I think your status as an employee could give you some leverage to work this out. Just make sure of a few things - make sure the hospital gets these accounts back from the collection agency. When a debt "goes to collections", you're dealing with an independent collection agency that will try to get you to pay them, not the original creditor (otherwise they don't make money off the deal). Whatever action is ultimately agreed upon, make sure you get out of it a written agreement from the hospital, that they will delete this information entirely from your credit reports, and that the collection agency they contracted will also delete any reports of the account. (Paid collections don't look particularly better on your credit report than unpaid ones, so it's better if you get this stuff entirely removed.) -ingenue
