Hello all, I am currently in the process of negotiating down/out of two small debts - one is around $4,500 (charged off credit card) and the other is around $1,400 (alarm contract/bill I unknowingly entered and subsequently stopped paying when I moved). I have called both agencies and told them that I am unemployed and I am unable to pay the balances in full, and if they want any money at all, they will need to settle for around 10% of the balance. The $4,500 debt is from 2007 and the $1,400 debt is from 2010. I do work, but only as I find the work, so I am technically not employed, but I do receive money for jobs I do. Would these agencies be able to access to my personal checking/savings accounts to check for any sort of direct deposit history? If so, they will likely see the payments I receive for my seasonal/as-needed work and think that I am not telling the whole truth. I'm just curious to find out how they would go about this. Thanks for the help! Cheers.
They can't get to your personal accounts until they secure a judgment against you. To do that, of course, they need to sue you first. If you haven't put your offers in writing yet, you should.
