First time posting, thank you in advance for any help. From what I have read you guys are a wealth of knowledge and very helpful!!!! I live in Missouri. I have three entries on my CR from a CA. The first is for $75 placed 08/05 CLSD 02/06 with a verified date of 02/06. This is over 5years do you know when it will come off or how I can get it off? #2 is $52 placed 11/07 CLSD 6/8 and verified 10/08, same question but only 3 years old. #3 is $187 placed 01/08 CLSD 01/09 verified 01/09. same question. Any help would be great. I have a couple of other things on my CR that I just send off Certified Requests for deletion if I pay off the amount owed. all very small amounts. I am currently trying to get a mortgage because my job is transferring to WI and my credit score is around 590 / 600. Thank you.
I feel I should elaborate a little more on my current situation. I have 13 collection accounts. 4 were paid off 1 year or more ago (3 listed above), 4 I paid off recently before finding this site, 5 I have PFD's drafted and ready to mail out in the morning. I have done quite a bit of searching on this site and I am a little confused. Should I send the 5 FPD's or should I send a DV? On the 4 items that I paid off more than a year ago should I send Validation letters? On the 4 I just paid off recently without requestind deletion (stupid me) is their anything I can do? Please respond, Thanks,
Welcome to Creditnet! I would recommend always sending a DV to the CA first. You need to protect your rights under the FDCPA and make sure you're paying the party that has the right to collect your debt. Regarding the debts you've already paid, there's really no reason to DV now. How are these debts currently reported on your credit reports? Also, collections will fall off your credit reports after 7 years from the DOFD, so you've still got some time to wait on those 3 small collections you mentioned. I would recommend trying to negotiate payment in full for deletion. It's a shame to let such small debts really drag down your scores.
Ok I will send DV letters today on the outstanding 5 accounts. The ones I paid are marked "paid collection". Is there anything I can do on these? I read somewhere that I can send them a letter to dispute the entry on my credit report.
You can send them a goodwill letter and tell them your trying to clean up your credit. The problem is you already paid so you have nothing they want.Probbaly just have to wait those out.
If there's any inaccurate or missing information on your credit reports regarding the paid collections, you have the right to dispute those inaccuracies through the CRAs as well.
I was actually just doing a review of the Paid Collections on all three reports and they are all inaccurate. Every one has different dates and some vary by more than 1.5 years. I was going to do a dispute with the CRA but I am thinking of sending the CA a letter first. I am hoping they will just delete them since they are all so small and a few years old now. I just have to figure out what type of letter I am going to send....any suggestions? Thanks for your reply...I appreciate any information. Seems like such an up hill battle with no end in sight right now.
You probably have a better chance of getting them removed if you dispute the inaccuracies through the CRAs. The CAs already have your money and simply may not respond to the CRAs' investigations, which in turn may result in the accounts being removed from your credit reports. A letter to the CAs will likely result in no response, but like Juss11 said you can always write a simple goodwill letter asking that they be removed and hope for the best. Look in our "Sample Letters" section for an example.
