ok, here's the new thread because i think that the previous title was a little outdated.

we got her denial from BofA today by email. they said they're going to send a letter by mail detailing why they didn't approve our app.

citi is responding by mail and we should be getting an answer regarding that app sometime during the next few weeks.

i was all bummed out about the BofA denial when i left for work tonight. when i checked the mail on the way out, i saw a letter for ME (not my wife) from Capital One. i opened it when i got to work and saw it was a pre-approval (confirmation) for a CapOne Platinum MasterCard with a 0% APR until August and a 14.9% after that. the only drawback that i can see is the $49 annual membership fee. however, with my scores being what they are, and the horrible MBNA tradeline still on my report, i'm gonna go for the CapOne offer as soon as i'm done posting this.

i'm gonna get my nutcase letter for MBNA together tonight to see if i can get them to take their info off my report (settled in 03/01). i searched to posts to find other people who also sent MBNA a nutcase letter, and there seems to be a pretty decent success rate.

i want to thank everyone on the board who helped me get my feet wet and start this journey (especially shawbee). i'm confident that i'll get where i want to be, and i know i couldn't have even started without this board and all the people that belong to it.

i'll let you know what happens with CapOne!

definitely go do a planet feedback to bank of america. many have reported success with it after initial denials. i just did it myself and got approved after an initial denial. it can't hurt and may end up getting you approved.

you should also have a phone number on the bofa decision page that you can call and find out why she was denied.

as for citibank, search the boards for a status phone number. don't remember exactly where it was posted, but there's a number to call to check on application status. when i applied online, i got a message saying they'd mail their decision. i called up like 4 days later and found out i was approved.

i guess i just hate waiting for mail to come in...

i plan to do a PFB to BofA. i just have to look around PFB a little more to get the hang of it.

we called the BofA number and they just kept transferring me from dept. to dept. we finally got to the right one and the woman said to call back in a few hours because their computers were on the blink.

as for citi, i'll search for that number tonight. it's nice to see that you got your answer 4 days later. we'll call both tomorrow and see what happens.

i hate waiting for responses in the mail too!

got the overnight recording...gotta call tomorrow during regular business hours...hopefully they'll have some good news.

well, i applied for that CapOne i was "confirmed" for. they're sending a letter in 7-10 days. i'm gonna see if i can get a number to their approval dept. too. maybe i can get both citi and mbna's decisions early, then deal with Bofa.

glad to see you reading my posts Butch...i've been saving a whole bunch of tips from your posts. i've just started the process of disputing two collections. i hope i won't have to use your Estoppel letter for them :)

I have been keeping up on your progress. Hang in there and with you wife's score, you really need to planetfeedback, and fight for those cards. I remember in July I applied for Amex Blue cash and was denied. I asked for reconsideration and they told me pull a new report and fax. I took one off internet and that was not acceptable. Had to write and get new one and send in mail to another state. It was Oct when I finally was approved for 2000. I asked for reconsideration on cl. It was moved to 5000. Since then I have just been approved for 21200 cl Biz card. They wouldn't give me anything in July and now a fabulous hidden line of credit. But it was lots of hours reading, pfb, hanging in there. I am proud of you and your wife. Good luck.

thanks shawbee! i especially appreciate all your help. i've been doing so much reading on this board, but without your help, i don't think that i would have been able to utilize all the info i've found properly.

i've been to the pfb website several times, and i've found a few reconsideration letters written by other people. i think i'm gonna try and get a letter together, and then once we hear why BofA denied her app, i'm gonna send it.

also, regarding my CapOne pre-approval, i tried calling their customer service to check the status of my app and, after getting transferred 4 times to people who couldn't help me, i finally got the correct phone number...800-933-5182. so anyone who is searching the boards for the CapOne app status line, there it is.

my pfb to bofa was pretty simple. when i called them to find out why i was denied initially, they said it was because i had "young credit" and no long history. so in my pfb i just said i've had credit cards for over a decade and recently got approved for american express cards and closed on a house so why was bank of america more strict. i then asked for a reconsideration and that they also consider my initial request to balance transfer my providian balance. also threw in some bs about wanting to get rid of my "subprime" providian account.

oh i also kissed up a little bit, saying how bank of america came highly recommended and that i decided to apply after word of mouth on how good the customer service has been to my family and friends, and how my experience at citibank has been very poor. you know, things like that.

i read other pfbs that had hardship concerns but i didn't put any of that in.

with your wife's scores, you should not have any problem getting the card.

here is my nutcase letter that i'm sending to MBNA to get that horrible tradeline off my report. it was settled on 10 APR 01.

    20 FEB 04

    MBNA AMERICA
    P.O. BOX 15026
    WILMINGTON, DE 19850-5026

    To Whom It May Concern:

I am formally requesting that you validate all tradeline notations you have submitted to the three major credit reporting agencies by MBNA AMERICA for me, dilla, for account number xxxxxxxxx.

Due to possible inaccuracies in these CRA reports, I must demand that the validation I hereby lawfully request be in the form of a notarized statement by a person with original knowledge of the debt as it was constituted and who can testify that the debt was incurred legally, was not subsequently disputed as a result of returned, faulty, or recalled consumer products, was not utilized as a profit-loss tax deduction during the period it may have been payable, and was not claimed as a loss with any insuring entity during the period it may have been payable. Please be advised that I am not requesting a verification that you have my mailing address; rather, I am requesting validation, i.e., competent evidence that I had some contractual obligation sans consumer protection encumbrance which incurred the original claims associated with this tradeline.

I have enclosed two documents which will verify my identity and address: a photocopy of my social security card and a photocopy of a recent paycheck.

Please know that you have 30 days from the tracked and confirmed delivery of this lawful notice to either answer these demands or to remove the associated negative tradeline notations from the CRA reports. Any other action may constitute evidence of your intent to abridge one or more civil or other constitutional rights. Please be further advised that continued unsubstantiated reporting of possible inaccuracies to third parties may provide a basis for criminal complaints being filed in accordance with FDCPA, FCRA, and other federal statutes.

I look forward to a timely and amicable resolution to this matter.

    Sincerely yours,

    dilla

please let me know if you guys think i left anything out or if i should add anything.

i'm going to have it notarized and send it by certified mail with return receipt (which i found is the way to go from the posts on this board).

    thanks!

    some bad news:

-BofA refuses to tell us over the phone why her app was denied. as soon as i get their letter, i'm going to PFB.
-Citi also denied her application. I called them and they said they pulled TU and got the following info:
*1 30-day late in the past year (which doesn't exist!, her payment hisotry is flawless!) they also couldn't tell which account this supposed late payment came from.
*high utilization on her new Providian card (50% because of BT from MBNA account)
*they said they want 2 cc accounts open at least a year. she has had MBNA since 99. we just BT'd from that to Providian this month, and left the MBNA open. she also has 2 retail clothing store cards (1 open since 99, the other since 03).

her TU score is 730! the citi woman then said that they don't take TU's score straight up...only that they figure it into their in-house scoring system.

i'm am gonna send citi a PFB letter too, but i'm so sick of them. they denied me as well. i'm so fed up with them that i almost don't wanna send them one.

so, with those two denials, we decided to apply for a Fleet Platinum Visa that she received a pre-approval for in the mail the other day. it's got an 8.99% APR with no fees. they said we'll get a response by mail within 2 weeks. hopefully she'll get her pre-approved card and i'll get my CapOne pre-approval.

    bummed but still hopin,

You realize that pre-approval doesn't really mean you're approved, don't you?

How many ings does your wife have on eq. This may be a good time to apply for GM and Corvette. They offer 6 and 9 mos 0%, always pull eq, and usually completely score driven.

she has 1 inquiry on equifax - from 10/03 by sprint for our cell phones.

regarding the GM card and the Corvette card. i would probably choose the GM card (i'd rather have a caddy than a corvette eventually). do you have either one of these yourself, shawbee? btw, does my nutcase letter look ok to you?

we've already applied for 3 CCs with her info in the past week, as of right now, so i'm a little wary of applying for anymore w/o seeing which reports have been pulled, besides the TU which i know citi pulled.

From what I understand GM and Corvette both pull eq always 100%. If you apply for both then it counts as 1 inquiry since they are both same company. Most people apply for the up card at same time and all 3 only get the 1 ing. Its easier to get than chase, bofa, citi, amex, and usually score driven, and your wife does have decent scores. The corvette is a little easier to get than GM. Gm offer a 5% cash reward toward a GM car even on a bt at the beginning. Corvette offer 9 mos 0% which would help your utilization and you could transfer part of your providian over. I am not that knowledgeable about ITS. There are many on the board better able to help in that area.

    what is ITS?

i'm gonna see what happens with her Fleet app and if that doesn't go thru, i'm gonna apply for thos HH cards.

I am sorry I didn't mean ITS, I meant nutcase letter . My problems were utilization etc. so I don't have a lot of experience with the different letters sent to creditors.
