i sent MBNA my nutcase letter today, by certified mail with return receipt...so the clock's ticking. i called CapOne to check the status of my app, and they said they had to ask me some more questions. i think they might do the same thing AOL does and have their customer service reps in the middle east, because i couldn't understand a word they were saying. when i finally didn't understand them, it was like talking to a wall. i would answer their question and they wouldn't understand me. i hope this isn't a sign of things to come. well, i've read everything i could find on this board about the nutcase letter, and i think that the one i sent follows the model pretty well and i'm hopeful that i'll get a result similar to most of the people who sent it. shawbee, what does ITS mean? i couldn't find the definition by searching the posts. dilla
GOOD NEWS! we called Fleet to check the status of dw's Platinum app and she was approved for $1000!! i'm not worried about it only being a grand, because of all the success people on here have had getting their limits raised. after we've been with them for a while, i'm confident that she'll get a higher limit. i also called CapOne to check the status of my Platinum app and found out i was approved also!! she couldn't tell me the credit limit yet because it wasn't posted, but she told me that my card was mailed out today! i've read a few different opinions on how to maximize your credit scores regarding utilization. i'm really not sure which is best. i've read that keeping a balance that utilizes around 20%-30% of your CL is the best way to boost your scores. i've also read that paying off the balance in full as soon as you get your bill is the best way. is there any definitive answer to that question? i've got no problem doing either, but i just wanna make sure i'm doing the thing from the beginning with our new cards. thanks to everyone who helped us out! without this board, there's no way we would've gotten this far so quickly. we still have a little ways to go, but i'm more than confident that we'll get there with the help of the people on this board! dilla
First of all, congrats, way to go. Next if you pay off balances every month realize they will show a balance every month, it will not go to zero unless you rest it a month, or pay before you cycle closes. It is good to have 20-30% utilization. When you are ready to ask for cl increase or new credit then in particular pay attention that month to balances and ratios. You also want to try to have no more than balances on 3-4 cards at a time. I know its hard when you are just getting started or just have a few cards. Read info on how to get cl increased upon activation. It may or may not be possible but you can try.
well, we got our cards the other day. my CapOne is only a $200 limit as of right now, but i'm not worried about that. i think we're gonna worked up to about 20-25% utilization on both. also, a little side note...i'm glad we got our cards when we did because...I'M GONNA BE A FATHER!!! my wife told me this weekend when i got off work. i am so exciting i can't even begin to tell you. i really wanted us to have CCs before we had a child and now we do. also, regarding the nutcase letter i sent to MBNA. i mailed it out on the 20th of Feb. and they received it on the 24th of Feb. from what i've read on here my thinking is that they have until the 24th of Mar. to respond. is that correct? dilla
Congrats on fatherhood!!!!. I have 4 children myself and its the best thing I have done. My husband would wholeheartedly agree. Remember on Cap 1 that they do not show credit limits only high credit used, so the first time you use it, utilization will be 100%. There are a lot of threads on how to handle a credit card that does not put cl on report.
i decided to send BofA all that further info they requested to complete DW's application. i sent it out today but it won't be mailed out until tomorrow. i'm hoping she's approved for BofA because that, teamed up with the our other CCs, will pretty much put an end to us getting cards to build our (mostly my) credit up to purchase a house or condo. dilla
we got our cards for DWs BofA account today. we got a CL of $5,500. i'm glad i replied to their inital refusal. it looks like it was denied because of a discrepancy on the online app. so, we're done with applying for cards now. i'm still trying to fix up my CR. on wednesday it'll be a month since MBNA signed for my nutcase. i'll be faxing the son of nutcase letter to them once i find the number. i'm in the process of disputing 2 of the 4 collection items listed on my report right now. i just mailed out the validations friday. i disputed these 2 collections with EX and EQ, both reporting one, and EX replied with a generic letter that doesn't list how they verified, so i sent them a demand for procedures today. EQ sent me a letter asking for proof of identity and address, which i had already sent them in my dispute letter. they never sent me anything, instead they just started reporting that "the balance was not paid and the account was verified at the request of the consumer via a dispute." i'm gonna be sending them a demand for procedures tomorrow. well, that's about it for now...no change on the scores yet that i've seen, but i don't think identityguard.com is the best monitoring site. dilla .
thanks Butch!!!! you're a huge reason why i've accomplished what i have in such a short period of time!!! dilla .
