I saw an Epinion.com opinion on collection agencies (people can rate anything under the sun at the site) and they indicated that an attorney at the FTC said that if you send a registered letter to a collection agency demanding that they send your account back to the original creditor, that the collection agency will do it or face possible fines. Now I know that you can demand collection agencies to stop calling you, but this new info would be handy so I could settle my old accounts with the original creditor rather than those moronic collection agencies. Can anyone verify this supposed FTC info? Thanks, Mark
I have never heard of this before. I tried to find it on Epinions, do you remember where you exactly saw this??
Some collection agencies PURCHASE stale accounts from creditors. When they become the account-holder, they are under no obligation to consult with anybody.
