Here's my situation. I have been trying to change my birthday, quite unsuccessfully with Equifax. I have been dealing with this for 6 months, and I'm getting tired of it. When I first pulled my reports months ago, I noticed that they had the wrong b-day. It aged me 40 years. lol. I called them and they told me to send in my driver's license and social security card. They told me to fax it in, and I did. Well, I received an updated report and it had my correct birthday. Then on my next report, the birtdate was back to how it was. So, I mailed a letter CRRR giving them copies of the info that they had requested (licence and SS Card). I received an updated report with my correct birtday. Then, the next month, I received an updated report that had the same wrong birthday on there again! I called equifax and I was livid. The rep told me that it seems that one of the companies that was regularly reporting was probably reporting the wrong date. She told me to get in contact with these companies and figure out what they were reporting. I told her that wasn't my job and that it was her job to ensure 100% complete accuracy, not mine. Well, she investigated 3 of the accounts that were regularly reporting (all baddies I might add) and I received an updated report 1 month later that showed that all those baddies had dropped and my birthdate was correct again. Last week, I received an updated report and the same wrong birthdate is on there again! I called them and asked them what the hell was going on! She said that it was probably someone reporting. Then I told her the whole story of how we had already investigated the creditors who were regularly reporting. Then she didn't know what to say. She then said, "Well, we have a SSN card and Driver's license on file for you, but we need your birth certificate." WTF!!! I asked her if that if I sent it would the birthdate be changed to it's correct date and never changed again? She said, hopefully, yes. Well, I'm sending in the Birth Certificate, and I know I'll see it change to the correct birthdate, but I know that the old birthdate will pop back up. When it does, I'm going to send an intent to sue letter along with complaint letters to the FTC for equifax's willful non-compliance with the law. They have NOT taken all reasonable measures to ensure 100% accuracy in my report. It is their fault and they should have to pay. To borrow from Darkdoj's post about equifax, I think I have them on the same things that he does (even though his situation is far more severe: Failure to Keep and Report accurate information about me. Failure to investigate information contained in my report. Reporting information that they know is incorrect. Everyone should read Darkdoj's post about equifax. I think it answers a lot of questions regarding their incompetence. All of the other CRA's are keeping my personal information correct, so I don't understand why Equifax is having such a problem with this. A birthdate might not be a big thing, but it is turning me into a person I'm not. What if a creditor looks at my report and wonders why a 58 year old has such little credit and such a short credit history and denies me? We'll it will be because I'm only 24!!!!
