I have been on this board for about two months, and all my disputes have gone well up until this point. I disputed two items with Equifax, and today the collection status was changed to checked. When I contacted Eq they stated that it means they were unable to verify the balance. Does anyone have any idea what this means? Doesn't this mean it couldn't be verified? Please help!!!

I thought that the CRAs must furnish only 100% accurate information.

Sounds like a good case for deletion to me.

Read over the Fair Credit Reporting Act and the Fair Debt Collection act, specifically the dispute sections. There will be info there that says what they must do. Perhaps EQ needs a little reminder of their obligations.

Based on what you said, it sounds like they could not prove the amount owed. They must be able to provide you with documentation of what they are reporting, and if they cannot do that within the timeframe allotted (30 days) they must delete.
