I have a credit card that was charged-off in early 1997. The tradeline currently states PAYS as AGREED with a zero balance- there is no reference to the charge-off. The problem? The late pays really add-up (12 90+ days - OUCH)... * I have disputed with Eq several times and it comes back verified. * I sent a letter to the creditor and I got a letter back stating that they had no record for an account in my name with that account number. * I sent this letter with my last dispute to EQ and amazingly they verified within a few days- how do they verify a tradeline on an account the creditor has no record of? Now what? Should I leave it alone since it says "pays as agreed" and wait for the lates to fall off or should I keep disputing in hopes that they don't "find the records" and change the status to charge-off? What is worse- old late pays vs. charge-off? I can give Eq no better evidence than a letter from the creditor... if I dispute again, what should my reason be and should I send the letter to them again? Any suggestions welcome. Thanks.
Kit, You have stumbled onto the same old question many of us were wondering (do the CRA actually read the letrters we send the) My guess is that they don't. And apparently they only verify the trade lines half the time - this explains why sometime we get deletions and sometimes we don't. You need to actually TALK to someone over there at the CRA and hopefully they will let you fax the letter you have to them. Once you get to that point I think you will get a deletion. Good Luck, Sal
