Just figured I'd give a little update on my student loan dispute with Equisux (I spell it this way permanently now!! LOL). I disputed the Date Opened for 5 student loan entries on EQU that was showing as Charged-Off with I9's (I had already tried some other disputes but they always verify and the dates they have listed as opened are really incorrect). My FICO was 675 before the dispute. Results of the dispute... well of course they verified again but they obviously can't read because I disputed the Date Opened and they verified the DOLA. Ok fine. Anyway, they did change the CHARGED-OFF entries to 120+DAYS PAST DUE (Why, I don't know) and they removed half of the Payment Status so that they are all now reported as I5's. Which seems all good EXCEPT that my FICO went from 675 to 637!!! WTH???!!!??? So should I assume that 120+DAYS PAST DUE is worse than CHARGED-OFF as far as the score is concerned? DOLA remained the same (6/97) but of course the Date Reported is now 4/2002. Just kind of curious because it seems a little weird. Nothing else changed on the report. I went through everything...
I think it means you are more recent with lateness ( 120 days past due) rather than old negative activity such as a charge off. the more recent the worse it is on your credit scoring. any one else have another explanation?
Also when something is in dispute with Equisux it is NOT counted in the scoring. So if something is deleted, usually no score increase, but if it's verified you get a decrease. That's why you need to get your FICO when nothing is being disputed to get an accurate score. It sux...but it happens.
Thanks Tony and Christi... I am pretty sure I didn't have the items in dispute when i got the score, I was in between disputes. It just seems that with Equisux, no matter how specific your dispute is, they end up altering the item in some other way that will mess you up!! LOL
