In January (report dated 1/28), Equifax erroneously added a previous 90 day late payment to a paid off loan that I had through my credit union. I contacted my credit union first to find out why this was reported (Experian and Trans Union did not have this mistake). They told me they had no idea why since I was never late. They told me to go ahead and dispute with Equifax, and they would tell Equifax it was never late. So I disputed online with Equifax. Equifax said it came back verified. I disputed again, the late pay was removed, then re-added. I contacted the credit union again. A couple of days later it was removed. Then it was added back again. i disputed again, and Equifax said the credit union verified it had been late. At this point, I have found out that part of the problem was that 2 of my profiles had my correct name (the other 2 have a variation), and the reports have been flip-flopping, so some of my disputes went against one, and some went against the other. I just called my credit union again to find out why they were verifying the 90 day late payment. They told me Equifax has never contacted them about the account ever! I was told the credit union will put through a request to Equifax to update this. But it will be a mystery to see which profile is updated. I wanted to wait until they merged my profiles to dispute this, but I was afraid another creditor would pull and a/r and penalize me for a recent 90 day late.
Go to the credit union...have them call EQUIFAX...you get on the same line and do a 3-WAY and let the CREDIT UNION "GIVE THEM WHAT FOR"...or just get it in writing from the CREDIT UNION and send a copy of their letter with your "NOTICE TO FILE WITH SMALL CLAIMS COURT"
Hopefully, it will be updated this time. I am seriously considering suing for both this and the multiple profiles if they don't get their act together and soon!
You have them if you want to sue them. Have your credit union send you a letter that your account has always been on time and that Equifax has never contacted them... If you apply for some credit in the interim and get denied, you can sue for the amount denied... just a thought. You've been through a lot because they're morons. You do have a choice here. In getting the item corrected, you can go to the credit union and have them call a supervisor at Equifax and then fax the udf... it'll get updated in a day or 2 that way...
